About Wes Abrams

_____________________________

Music has a unique ability to speak when words fall short. For Wes Abrams, every melody tells a story, not just of life's joys, but of faith tested, hope restored, and grace experienced in ways he never imagined.

Wes is a fingerstyle acoustic guitarist, composer, entrepreneur, video game developer, husband, and father whose passion has always been creating experiences that inspire others. Whether through music, games, or business, his goal has never simply been to entertain, but to create something meaningful that leaves people encouraged.

For many years, life revolved around family and pursuing his dream of building an independent video game studio called Abrams Studios. In 2020, while developing a virtual reality game with his brothers after securing funding from Meta (Facebook), Wes began experiencing unexplained health problems. At first, he assumed the symptoms were simply the result of stress. As the months passed, however, his health continued to decline. Around that same time, God began drawing him closer. In late 2022, Wes recommitted himself to reading Scripture daily and placing every part of his life into God's hands. Looking back, he believes God was preparing him for a journey he never could have anticipated.

In January 2023, that journey changed forever.

After multiple hospitalizations, fluid around his lungs, widespread inflammation, and rapidly worsening health, doctors struggled to understand what was happening. Weeks passed without answers. During one of the darkest moments of his life, Wes remembers praying that if it was God's time to call him home, he was ready, but if it wasn't, he asked God to guide the doctors and reveal the answer. The following day, after being prayed over and anointed with oil by his father in law, a chance conversation between his hospitalist and a rheumatologist led to a breakthrough. High-dose steroids dramatically improved his condition, marking the beginning of a long search for the true diagnosis.

Over the following year, Wes endured repeated hospital stays, countless medical tests, treatments, and ongoing uncertainty. Every attempt to reduce his medications resulted in severe relapses. Eventually he was referred to Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, where a physician recognized the signs of an extremely rare disease known as VEXAS syndrome, a condition discovered only a few years earlier. Genetic testing confirmed the diagnosis, along with the most severe known variant of the disease. He also developed blood cancer as a result of the illness. What seemed like another devastating setback ultimately opened the door to hope, as he was referred to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where researchers were pioneering treatments for VEXAS patients.

After months of chemotherapy and preparation, Wes underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant in January 2025 at the NIH. His donor, a 27-year-old woman from South Carolina, proved to be a perfect match. Following weeks in the hospital and more than one hundred days of recovery in Maryland, he returned home with a renewed appreciation for every breath, every day, and every opportunity God had given him. Although recovery brought new challenges, including graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)—his faith never wavered. Through every setback, he remained convinced that God was still writing his story.

One of the greatest reminders of God's faithfulness came in unexpected ways. A prayer blanket lovingly made by his wife's family and church accompanied him through every hospitalization and every step of his transplant journey. Years later, Wes discovered that it had been made just a short distance from where his bone marrow donor lived, a small detail that became another personal reminder that God's hand had been guiding the journey long before he could see the path ahead.

Today, Wes continues to pursue the passions God has placed in his life. He co-owns Abrams Cards and Collectibles with his family, continues developing independent video games through Abrams Studios and Planet 47 Games, and composes original fingerstyle acoustic music that reflects the hope he found through faith. His debut instrumental album, Breath of Grace, tells the story of his journey through twelve original compositions, following a path from the first signs of illness to diagnosis, transplant, recovery, and ultimately discovering peace in God's grace. Without lyrics, each piece invites listeners to experience the emotions of the journey through melody alone.

Wes believes that every challenge can become a testimony. His prayer is that his music encourages anyone walking through illness, grief, uncertainty, or hardship to remember that they are never alone. No matter how dark the road may become, God remains faithful.
